THIS DAY IN ELVIS HISTORY... THURSDAY OCTOBER 21ST, 1965 - MEMPHIS, TN.
Today Bill Black died of a brain tumor at age 39.
Elvis was quoted in the commercial appeal saying "Bill was a great man & a person everyone loved. This comes as such a shock to me that I can hardly explain how much I loved Bill."
Elvis got a lot of bad press for not attending the funeral. He believed his presence would cause a media frenzy.
