"ON-AIRING" IT OUT!
THIS DAY IN ELVIS HISTORY... TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17TH 1957 - MEMPHIS, TN.
Dewey Phillips will long be known as the DJ that helped launch Elvis's career.
The two became very close. But, in 1957, Elvis let Dewey listen to his next unreleased single "Teddy Bear".
Dewey secretly took a copy and started playing it on the air before it's release date. Elvis was so mad, he didn't want anything to do with Dewey again.
Elvis and Dewey finally bury the hatchet when, on this date, Elvis went down to the WHBQ studio during Dewey's broadcast. Their friendship was mended, but it left an emotional scar on Elvis.
